My Aunt Mirabellerina gave me a hat
Which I didn't like, and that was that
I didn't like it because it was red
With green elephants standing on their heads
Pink little turtles danced on nonstop
And the hat itself looked like a flowerpot
Five sizes too big and with no strings attached
It slid down my nose and my hair got mashed
I really, really hated that hat
But one day I tripped and fell down flat
The hat, made of rubber, bounced off the ground
Once the stars left my eyes, I gasped as I found
I stood on my feet with my pieces unbroken
A lifesaving hat: Truer words never spoken
I hugged it to me and called it my friend
And that was the day I loved my hat
