Once upon a time there was a beautiful lady named Granny. She had tea parties
with her friend Abigail and used her best teapot with a happy smile.
One day, Granny could not find her best teapot. She lifted her tablecloth in a
pink dress, because it was Sunday. Soft and fluffy, she looked under the couch.
In despair, Granny sat down on her bed with a soft coverlet. Where could her
best teapot be?
"I've looked here, and looked there, and looked everywhere!" Granny cried with a
hanky. "Except for where my best teapot is."
She got up and answered the door which was knocking loudly. There was nobody
there.
She shut it again and sat back down on her bed. "Oh, where is my teapot? Oh,
where is my teapot? Oh where, oh where, oh where, oh where, oh wheeeerrree...is
my teapot?"
"Meow." Granny's cat jumped up on the bed with a soft coverlet. "I don't know
where it is."
With a hanky, Granny asked, "You can talk?"
"Yes," said the kitty, needing the quilt. "And I know exactly where your teapot
is!"
Unfortunately, the rest of what she said was drowned out when there was another
knocking at the door sadly.
"My, my, what a busy day," Granny said, getting up and opening the door again.
There was no one there again so she shut it again. "What were you saying?"
"I said," her cat repeated, "It's in the last place you didn't look."
"That's right!" Granny jumped up with a thump and walked to the door. "And the
last place I didn't look was Abigail's house!" She picked up her hanky softly
and walked out the door.
Knocking on the door, she reached Abigail's house. Abigail opened it. "Hello!"
"Hello!" she replied.
They looked at each other for a moment.
"Granny," Abigail asked at last, finally, "Have you seen my handkerchief in a
fit of despair?"
"I'm looking for my teapot," Granny said. "It's blue and yellow with little neon
pink flowers."
"Here it is!" Teapot held high with a cry, Abigail showed it to Granny.
Granny took it and pulled out her handkerchief. "Oh, thank you!"
"That's my hanky I've been looking for!" Abigail exclaimed. Granny gave her the
handkerchief. "Thank you!"
"You're welcome!" said Granny. "Now, let's have a cup of tea."
